It's been 5 years since I started work here at DeviantArt, at the time I had spent two years dreaming that one day I would wear that $ in-front of my username.
When offered the chance, I assumed I must be dreaming. Even during the surreal moment of being sat on spyed's sofa with pachunka I was still pinching myself to make sure it was real.

But here I was, living the dream.

When I joined DeviantArt I knew nothing, heck I didn't even know what a QA tester was when randomduck offered me the position.
I could barely code, I just happened to have a knack of breaking things.

But since those days I've grown up and I've learned a lot.
I worked my way from testing to development, I even fixed a few things along the way!
I've been to college, and in four weeks I will finish university and throughout all this DeviantArt has supported me.

For all this I'd like to thank DeviantArt and everyone there, without whom I would not be where I am today.

But as the title states, all good things must come to an end.
It's a shame to bring an end to the journey, especially under the circumstances.
It'll be hard to move on, I've never worked anywhere other than DeviantArt
but with every end comes a new beginning, and hopefully it'll be the beginning of something good.

Update: A massive thank you to everyone who sent in a application to be an alpha tester! Applications are now closed. Due to the volume of applications it will take a few more days to finish going through them. Users will be contacted if they are successful in getting a place, so keep an eye out! - DEVlANT

Calling all beta testers, bug lovers and feature loving deviants. :noes::megaphone:

I have exciting news! :devdevbug: is looking for some new deviants to be Alpha Tester! :la:

But what is an alpha tester?

An Alpha tester is a bit like a Beta tester only they get to test out new features before Beta testers do. :omg:

So, what do alpha testers get to do? :evileye:

As an alpha tester you'll have the chance to talk to staff and developers about new and upcoming features, and help find and report any bugs that there may be, before it goes to beta testers or the general public.

On top of that, you'll be able to see the :devdevbug: issue tracker containing bug reports submitted by other users during beta testing, helping to prioritise tickets and answer questions, giving the best possible experience to beta testers and users when they see the final product. :dummy:

What do I need to become an alpha tester?

There is only one requirement for being an alpha tester, and that is that you must currently be an official beta tester - if you're not, you can find out how to become one here. ;)

There are however a few qualities that are useful, but not essential for becoming an alpha tester
  • Love for bugs - Nothing is ever perfect first time and things do occasionally break. If you enjoy fiddling with features and picking things apart, alpha testing would be the perfect way of doing that, and in the process you'll make deviantART a better place for everyone. :happybounce:
  • HTML - It may be useful (but not essential) to know the very basics of html and how to debug to help get useful info to the developers so they can squish bugs faster. (anything beyond is a plus :B)
  • Talkative - Being an alpha tester gives you the chance to talk to staff and give your feedback on features, so if you have an idea or think something could be improved let us know!
  • Helpful - It's always nice to help out other deviants.
  • Enthusiastic - :squee:

Do I get anything for being an alpha tester? :flirty:

Yes!

You get this cookie. :cookie:

And a bug squishing alpha tester badge to make your friends jelly.

And the chance to make it even easier to get your opinions and feedback heard by staff. :w00t:

And this gummy bear. :gummybear:

And the chance to play with features that may never even be released. :noes:

And that warm fuzzy feeling inside for knowing you're making deviantART a better place. :meow:

And maybe a few other things along the way. :ninja:

I'm in, where's the button to apply? :#1:

Other Stuffz

It's been a little while (again) since i made an update, so here's a little bit about what I've been up to:

As of last Friday I have finished all my Uni coursework for this year :la: Although i still have exams over the next couple of weeks :nuu:

I'm looking forward to getting these exams over and done with as then I'll have more time to dedicate to dA.
Thankfully I've finished the module I had the most work for (my web programming module) and got 100% in all 4 sections :happybounce:

On an off note from Uni, back in February I bought a Raspberry Pi and i finally got an email today saying that it's been dispatched so I'm uba-excited about getting to play with it :squee:

anyway, short update is short!
