Download a Stack in a Zip

Wed Mar 7, 2012, 2:28 PM
Hey Folks

Quick update to Sta.sh for you to try out :eyes:
You can now download an entire stack all at once in an easy to access .zip file

So how does it work?

It's simple!
:bulletblue: Upload images into a stack or group images already in your Sta.sh into a stack
:bulletblue: Share your stack with anyone who you want to see it
:bulletblue: They will then be able to download all the images in the stack by simply pressing the "Download All" link at the bottom of the page

Whether you're sharing your stock images, collaborating on a piece with friends or simply want a quick and easy way to get to your files from a different location it can now be done even faster and with one click of a button

Give it a try

We want to make sure that everything is working smoothly and that there are no hiccups when downloading the zip files.
Try adding some files to a stack then downloading them and make sure that all the correct files are present and correct

If you do find any issues, or have a problem with downloading a stack drop a bug report into the "Download Stacks" project and we'll do our best to sort it for you :)

Stay Devious

Now, to go home and find a way into St.ash, then finally get a way to unzip programs. Should I manage the time and attention tomorrow, I swear I will! :salute:

Very nice. This is a fantastic idea. It makes it easier to share files via DA, especially for things like groups.

I wonder why I would want to download a stack of my stash

I mean - I kind of upload them there to submit them and already have them on my PC so why would I want to download them again? :confused:

Additionally, it's a good tool if you're collaborating with other deviants on a project involving a bunch of different files.

I mean the article sounds as if other people could also DL the stack but why would I want other people to download my art?

well, dA is a place where people download and share art. the main reason for the download is so people can share the art you've done, and some upload it on here and share a link to your page.

It's an easy way for stock artists - that, and any other resources people might want to provide in a ZIP file. Obviously, it's not for everyone. :)

well I have a srock account also and I regularly upload packs but I submit everything - the stash is quitely only some kind of in-between storage before submission for me ^^

It seems to be working just fine for me (tested on images using the latest stable Google Chrome and Firefox builds). Thanks for adding this!

Might I suggest adding "Download All" into the File menu when viewing the contents of a stack or have a stack highlighted? I'm not sure how much data your system can handle during a compression and transfer, or how intensive the process is for the matter, but allowing the selection of multiple stacks in the Sta.sh main page for zip may be a good option. This would allow people to download multiple stacks without having to compile them into 1 one stack before exporting. Individual stacks could be contained in their own sub-directories which are labeled dynamically using the stack's title tag (OS specific illegal characters could need to be excluded to prevent errors, obviously).

File system could be like

MyFiles.zip
>>[Stack1]
------>File1.jpg
------>file2.png
>>[Stack2]
------>File3.jpg
------>File4.bmp

Just a suggestion, but something I wouldn't mind seeing implemented :)

Indeed... just today a friend of mine did show me her photos on STASH and I was able to download them...
I had not seen this "report" yet so was quite amazed when this happened...
Now... I DO UNDERSTAND.....
Will be making use of this tool as I find it really handy.....

It's a great idea, but it really ought to be a bit more streamlined. For example (as several others have mentioned), it would be better if people didn't have to scroll down so far to get to the download link. I know it took me a while to even find the link, and I was thinking that something was broken. Having it right beneath the deviations, or even at the top of the page, would probably eliminate this for many people.

In addition to a link on the stack's page, it would also be really good if there was a button on the Sta.sh home page, in that area that shows up beneath the stack when the mouse pointer is over it (with the "View" and "Delete" buttons).
